Global Credit Rating, an independent international ratings company, assesses Fedhealth annually around this time of the year. Once again, we have been awarded the second highest rating, that of AA-. Still rated as one of the best, it is reassuring to know that we continue doing everything we can to maintain the high standards we've set for ourselves and to ensure stability to all our stakeholders.

Awarded not only for financial performance, the ratings also look at issues like administration, product range and corporate governance with the focus on claims paying ability. By receiving the second highest possible rating in the industry, Fedhealth is once again giving its members the confidence that they are indeed with a healthy, well-managed scheme that will continue to pay their claims promptly and efficiently. Within the borders of South Africa:
Europ Assistance (EA) covers all Fedhealth members for emergency road or air response to the scene of a medical emergency and advanced life-saving resuscitation is provided. Where necessary, the injured or ill person is stabilised before being transported to the closest medical facility. The phone number is 086 0333 432.

Up to the 22nd parallel:
All members of Fedhealth, who travel beyond the borders of South Africa up to the 22nd parallel, are covered for emergency evacuation. This forms part of the benefit provided within the borders of South Africa, but only covers emergency evacuation back to South Africa and not medical expenses for treatment received in that country. Therefore members who are travelling outside of the borders of South Africa must be advised to always notify the scheme of their travel dates in order to be covered by the International Travel Assistance benefit. See below for contact details.

International Travel Assistance Policy
Fedhealth members who are travelling anywhere outside of South Africa for up to 90 days, are covered by the International Travel Assistance Policy, providing they declare their travel dates before departure. If members do not declare or if they are travelling for more than 90 days, they will not be covered by this policy. Members must call 011 991 8600 to declare their travel dates and to confirm their cover.

The international travel cover is provided to Fedhealth members by Europ Assistance and is underwritten by ABSA Insurance, an authorised financial services provider.

Working in Africa
Fedhealth covers up to R100 000 for emergency evacuations to South Africa for members who are based in any African country other than South Africa (for example, contract workers). This is a scheme benefit and only comes into effect after the member has stayed for 90 continuous days in any African country. In the event of a medical emergency, the member must contact 011 991 8600 to arrange a medical evacuation to South Africa where their medical treatment will be covered by Fedhealth according to the benefits and limits of their option. ♦
